The primary goal is to improve players' skills, fitness, and character, with winning being a result of this development. This involves creating a safe environment for experimentation and risk-taking. 

 Players are more motivated and engaged when they are having fun. This requires creating an environment where players feel valued and important.  

Hockey is a privilege that not many people get to experience.  Coaches should reward and acknowledge hard work, while also holding players accountable for their effort and behavior. 

 A successful philosophy extends beyond the rink, teaching valuable life skills like respect, teamwork, discipline, and resilience.  

 Coaches should focus on continuous improvement for each player, both physically and mentally, and adapt their approach to fit different ages and skill levels.  

 A coach's actions and behavior are powerful tools. A great coach models the behavior they want to see in their players.
